Dear readers,

The South American Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Network (SAPASEN) was created to generate and share transnational empirical evidence on physical activity and sedentary behavior in South America. To strengthen our communication, engage those interested in Behavioral Epidemiology, and inform members and policymakers, we are excited to launch SAPASEN’s quarterly newsletter.

In this first issue, Ingrid Pinheiro presents her PhD project, "Evaluation of Public Policies on Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior in South American Countries”. For those interested in Public Policies, the Simpósio Internacional de Políticas Públicas de Atividade Física e Comportamento Sedentário will take place in Aracaju from August 27 to 29, 2025 (more details in the Happens in South America section).

We also celebrate the achievements of our members: three SAPASEN researchers have recently completed their PhDs, and one member has earned a Master’s degree. Additionally, a compilation of recent publications by SAPASEN members is available in the Publications section.

We hope you enjoy this first edition of our newsletter and stay connected for more updates!
